Diet and Exercise Update

Yesterday and today I did pretty good food and exercise wise. Yesterday I had a banana for breakfast, then about an hour later I had a serving size bowl of Cheerios. Then around lunch I had a salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. For a snack I had some “heart healthy” nut mix and for dinner I had another bowl of Cheerios. Of course that didn’t keep me satisfied so I had another banana with peanut butter. My downfall was, however, a bag of Sea Salt and Pepper Kettle Chips.

I also worked out yesterday to my new Jillian Michaels DVD, Banish Fat and Boost Metabolism. I tell ya! That woman is one tough cookie! There are 7 circuits in the workout and it’s all cardio! When I got it I was thinking, “I can easily do 40 minutes of cardio. Heck, I used to workout to this one DVD, Winsor Pilates, that was like over an hour or something and had no problem. Yeah I was winded and it was a good workout and all, so 40 minutes should be a breeze.” Yeah right!!! Into barely the 2nd circuit I felt like I was going to throw up. I really had no idea how much longer the DVD was going to be, and I pushed myself to do the third circuit. I thought I was going to PASS OUT! I thought surely there must be something wrong with me! I knew I had gotten out of shape because I haven’t worked out in the last couple of months, but I figured I would still have some of that left. Oh NO! Heck NO! I seriously thought I was going die. My vision started to fade and everything…like it does when you’re going to pass out…the room turns all gray and everything looks “pixely”. That’s what happens to me anyway when I’m about to pass out.

Since I thought for sure I was just overheated, I gave myself a little rest and tried to get back in the groove and do some more circuits…afterall Jillian wasn’t done…YET! So, I got up and did a couple more of her kick boxing moves (which I LOVE by the way) and then I started to feel like I was going to pass out again. I thought, “Good grief! What the heck is wrong with me?!” So, I gave it another rest for a few more minutes and watched as the girls in the video did these ridiculous moves and they were barely breathing hard. Finally Jillian was saying it was the last circuit so I tried to get up and do the final one and then the cool down. Oh heck no! I barely got through the first set in the circuit and felt light headed again, so I just watched. I did do the cool down because I wanted to make sure to stretch after working out. Not that I thought I did anything to warrant soreness, but I wanted to be sure. HA!

So after the workout, I decided to watch the rest of the video. You know, like the “Recommendations”. Yeah. Should have watched that first. It says that there are 7 circuits and beginners should do as many as they can and work their way up to doing the whole workout. Here I thought I was horribly out of shape, a big fat loser that couldn’t make it even half way through the workout. Haha. That’s what I get for thinking I don’t need to read the recommendations first! LOL.

Anyway. This morning I got up and could feel muscles in my thighs I never knew I had! I know I definitely got a good workout! I can’t wait to do it again.

Today, I had a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast. Then I went to the beach with my oldest daughter and her hubby and kiddos. My friend Tishia met us out there later. I took some apples, cashews, pistachios and carrots and dip for snacks. I also took a huge jug of diet green tea with me to drink. I had some carrots and veggie dip, a few pistachios and then I shared one of the apples with my grandson (I ate the skin so he could eat the meaty part inside). Later I had some cashews and once again my downfall…this time it was Cheddar Cheese Ruffles. Grrrrr. I wish I didn’t love potato chips so much!!!! But I do. I try to eat nuts instead, but sometimes I can’t resist the salty goodness of potato chips.

When I got home I had another salad for dinner. I will probably have a snack before I go to bed and it might be popcorn. May just some more pistachios though. We shall see.

I did do some swimming at the lake. The lake we were at is quite shallow so I was walking out to see how far I could go before it went over my head. I got quite a ways out there and I could still touch. I swam all the way back, as close to shore as I could, before the water got too shallow. It was a nice swim.

On the way home, I rode with Tishia. There was this poor lady by the side of the road with what looked to be like a broken down car. We turned around to see if she needed a cell phone to call for help, but instead we gave her a ride to one of her friends who lived just down the road from where her car broke down. It was interesting to say the least. I won’t go into it here…maybe Tishia will on her blog :)

Anyway. It feels good to be somewhat back on track. It certainly is easier to eat healthy when I’m alone or almost alone and don’t have anyone tempting me with unhealthy things. Not that THEY tempt me, but even seeing someone eat something I love makes it difficult to resist. Or especially when I SMELL something good! I do have to say though, that I have resisted these yummy cookies my Pastor’s wife gave us at church the other night. They have been sitting on my counter for 2 days now and I haven’t touched them. I have thought about it though. LOL. However, if they were chips I might would have a harder time resisting them.

What is the hardest food for you to resist? Do you find it easier to eat healthy when you’re alone or when you have someone to hold you accountable?
