Low Carb Diet Seems to Be Working

I’ve been doing a low carb diet for the last week or so. The first couple of days were a little rough due to a baby shower and Easter Sunday. Easter I did pretty good actually; I didn’t have any potatoes (which I love, Love, LOVE) or homemade bread (which I also LOVE!), but I did have 1 peanut butter egg and 1 Hershey’s Kiss. That’s pretty darn good considering there were plastic eggs filled with chocolate candies all over my house!!!

I snuck a weigh in on Tuesday, in the afternoon mind you, because I can feel my stomach shrinking already, even after only a couple of days of almost no carbs or very few carbs. I lost a whole pound from Friday to Tuesday, and probably more because I was weighing myself at 3:00 in the afternoon, fully clothed. I can’t wait for my weigh in tomorrow! I hope I hit my first mini goal weight of 210, but that’s probably pushing it. I will do measurements when I do hit my first mini goal. I’m also going to make a video of my before and now shots. I found a couple of almost full body shots from when I was my heaviest ever, 228, and boy can you tell a difference! What a difference 15 pounds makes!!!

Anyway, back to the low carb thing. I realized that limiting my carbs actually limits the amount of sugar I put in my body. I’ve also learned there are good carbs and bad carbs. The bad carbs are basically sugar and by limiting my carbs all together, I’ve significantly reduced the amount of sugar I was putting into my body. I think this is the main reason the low carb thing works so well for me. I’m “an apple”, therefore I’m at risk for diabetes, and I believe my doctor even told me that I’m on the border of being diabetic. She’s so smart. Why didn’t I listen to her before? Oh because I didn’t want to believe it and I didn’t want to have to change anything I was doing. I’m so glad I’m much wiser now. HA!

So, I guess my point of this post is to tell you that I’m going to still limit my carb intake to 40 grams per day, but I’m also going to be watching how much sugar is in everything I eat. I’m going to limit my sugar intake to 15 grams per day. For instance, I had a bowl of oatmeal this morning…not the pre packaged, flavored kind, the real stuff.  One serving (1/2 cup) contains 27 carbs! But, only 1 gram of sugar. I added a teaspoon of brown sugar (my new best friend) for 4 grams of sugar and sprinkled some cinnamon on top. Yummmmmmoooooo! It was soooo good! Plus the oats help me get the extra fiber I need.

Not only is faster weight loss a huge benefit, but so is the way I feel. I feel awesome. Ha! My hips don’t ache as much, my body just plain feels better. I feel more alert and awake and able to focus. It’s amazing, truly amazing.
